A video of BLACKPINK’s Jennie celebrating her birthday has spread across online communities, sparking heated debate among fans and netizens.
Recently, clips circulated on social media with captions such as, “Jennie is celebrating her birthday in Japan,” showing the singer attending a birthday party at a club in Japan. In the footage, Jennie is seen dancing to the music while wearing a black crop top.
Attention quickly shifted to scenes featuring champagne and fireworks. Behind Jennie, women dressed in black stockings and garter belts were seen popping champagne bottles, which led to controversy. Some viewers expressed concerns that the portrayal of women in the scene could be interpreted as objectifying.
Concerns were also raised about safety.
Just recently, a major fire broke out at a club in Switzerland when sparks attached to a champagne bottle spread to the ceiling, resulting in the deaths of more than 40 people. In Jennie’s video, flames can similarly be seen shooting toward the ceiling, prompting worries about potential danger.
However, others have defended Jennie, emphasizing that the event was part of her private life and should be respected. As a result, online discussions remain divided.
Meanwhile, BLACKPINK is set to make a full-group comeback on Feb. 27 with their new release, DEADLINE.
