Actor Jo In-sung shared his satisfaction with his first collaboration with Jung Ho-yeon, best known for her role in “Squid Game.”

In the film “Hope,” Jo stars alongside Hwang Jung-min and Jung Ho-yeon, marking their first time working together. The film was also invited to the Competition section of the 79th Cannes International Film Festival, making it a meaningful milestone for Jo as he walked the Cannes red carpet for the first time since his debut.

In a recent interview with Herald Muse at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Seoul, Jo spoke candidly about his thoughts on working abroad and offered high praise for his co-star.

“Having such a promising actor like Ho-yeon is a great asset to the Korean film industry,” he said. “In the past, Korean actors were often consumed within the domestic market, but now, when a project succeeds, it can reach audiences around the world. I hope she continues to thrive and establishes herself globally as a ‘Super Korean.’”

Jo also shared his impressions of attending this year’s Cannes Film Festival.

“It was an incredibly meaningful experience, and I never imagined such an opportunity would come to me,” he said. “I tried to see and feel as much as I could. On days without a schedule, I attended screenings as a member of the audience. It reminded me once again just how many people truly love cinema.”

Interestingly, Jo added that he does not have a strong ambition to actively pursue overseas activities. “Rather than aiming to work abroad, I believe my role is to create great projects in Korea that audiences overseas can also appreciate,” he said.

Meanwhile, Hope, starring Hwang Jung-min, Jo In-sung and Jung Ho-yeon, tells the story of Beom-seok, the head of a local outpost in Hopo Port near the Demilitarized Zone. After hearing reports from local youths about the appearance of a tiger, the entire village is thrown into a state of emergency, leading to an encounter with an unbelievable reality. The film is set to be released on July 15.
