[헤럴드POP=강가희기자]에드워드 리가 '흑백요리사' 긴 여정을 마무리한 소감을 밝혔다.

11일 에드워드 리 셰프의 개인 채널에는 장문의 영어 소감문이 올라왔다. 넷플릭스 예능 '흑백요리사'에서 최종 2위를 차지한 에드워드 리는 "어디서부터 시작해야 할까요? 지난 몇 주 동안 넷플릭스 코리아 'Culinary Class Wars를 시청해 주신 분들께 받은 사랑에 정말 감사드립니다"라며 "여러분의 모든 댓글과 메시지에 감동했습니다. 제가 답변하기에는 너무 많지만 모든 글을 읽고 있고 여러분의 친절한 말에 감정이 넘쳐난다는 점을 알아주세요"라고 운을 뗐다.

에드워드 리는 "저처럼 젊은 시절의 많은 시간을 한국 문화를 피하며 보냈던 사람에게 제 한국적 유산과 연결되고, 한국 음식을 저만의 방식으로 표현하하고, 여러분 모두의 지지를 느낄 수 있다는 것이 무엇을 의미하는지 말로 설명할 수 없습니다"라며 "함께 경쟁한 모든 셰프에게 감사드리고 싶습니다. 미친 경험이었고 여러분 모두를 친구라고 부를 수 있어서 행운입니다. 제작진, 감독, 프로듀서, 편집자분들, 훌륭한 요리팀 모두와 함께 일할 수 있어서 정말 좋았습니다. 여러분 모두가 그리울 거예요"라는 소감을 남겼다.

이어 "어린 시절의 식재료로 고국에서 요리를 하고 한국 음식이 얼마나 아름답고 다양할 수 있는지 세상에 보여주는 것이 꿈이었습니다. 그리고 한국에서 연습할 주방이 없어서 불이익을 받았다고 말씀하신 분들에게 묻고 싶습니다. '주방이란 무엇인가요?' 한국에 머무는 동안 매일 쉬는 시간에는 호텔 방을 테스트 주방으로 바꾸고, 현지 시장에서 식재료를 구입하고, 동기 부여를 위해 강렬한 한국 드라마를 시청하면서 새로운 아이디어를 테스트했습니다"라고 말한 에드워드 리.

그는 "주방은 화려한 장비나 고급 식재료뿐만 아니라 열정과 사랑, 창의력을 발휘하는 곳입니다. 도마와 칼, 호기심만 있으면 모든 방을 주방으로 만들 수 있습니다. 모든 분들께 감사드리며, 어떤 모습이든 주방에서 새로운 것을 시도해 보시기 바랍니다"라며 글을 끝맺었다.

에드워드 리는 호텔 방에서 드라마 '옷소매 붉은 끝동'을 시청하며 요리 연습 중인 사진도 공개했다. 누리꾼들은 끝까지 열정에 불탔던 그의 모습에 박수를 보내고 있다.

한편 에드워드 리가 출연한 넷플릭스 예능 '흑백요리사: 요리 계급 전쟁'은 지난 8일 최종회가 공개됐다.

Where do I begin? I am so thankful for all the outpouring of love that I've received over the past few weeks from those who are watching @netflixkr Culinary Class Wars.

I am moved by all of your comments and messages. There are too many for me to respond to but please know that I am reading every one and I am awash with emotions from your kind words. For a kid like me who spent much of my youth avoiding Korean culture, I cannot explain in words what it means to be able to connect to my heritsge, to represent my vision of Korean food and to feel the support from you all.

I want to thank every chef who I competed with. It was an insane experience and I am lucky to call everyone of you a friend. To the entire production crew, the directors, the producers, editors and the exclellent culinary team, you were amazing to work with. I will miss you all.

It has been a dream to cook in my homeland with the ingredients of my youth and to show the world how beautiful and diverse Korean food can be. And to those who have remarked that I was at a disadvantage because I did not have a kitchen to practice in Korea, it makes me ask, What is a Kitchen?

Every day off while in Korea, I turned my hotel room into a test kitchen, bought ingredients from the local markets and tested new ideas all while watching intense Korean dramas for motivation. A kitchen is passion and love and creativity - it is not only fancy equipment or luxury ingredients. All I ever really need is a cutting board, a knife and curiosity to turn any room into a kitchen. Thank you to everyone and hope I inspired you to try something new in your own kitchens, whatever that may look like.
