Global hospitality chain Travelodge Hotels Asia is accelerating its expansion into the Korean market with the opening of its largest property in Asia and its first flagship hotel in South Korea, strategically located in the heart of Seoul’s Gangnam district.

Travelodge Hotels Asia announced on Oct. 16 that it held the official grand opening ceremony for Travelodge Gangnam Yeoksam Seoul. Key attendees—including General Manager Anthony Yoo, Korea Country Manager Ho-yoon Lee, key property owners, strategic partners, and industry leaders—gathered to celebrate the official opening of the brand’s fifth property in South Korea and its largest across Asia.

Following an extensive, complete renovation tailored to Travelodge’s signature brand identity and vibrant color scheme, Travelodge Gangnam Yeoksam Seoul offers seamless accessibility to business, shopping, and cultural hotspots given its prime location near major subway stations. Featuring 360 guest rooms, the hotel began welcoming guests earlier this month on October 6.

In an interview during the event, General Manager Anthony Yoo highlighted the property‘s significance: “While our existing locations in Myeongdong, Euljiro, and Namsan were conversions from other hotel brands, the Gangnam location represents Travelodge’s first ground-up flagship model in Korea, built to embody our brand’s unique identity,” Yoo said. “We are confident in offering room sizes, design aesthetics, and seamless personalized service on par with neighboring 4-star properties. Our greatest competitive edge is boasting the largest room inventory among mid-scale hotels in the Gangnam area, allowing us to effortlessly accommodate large tour groups and MICE business guests‘ demand.”

Country Head Lee Ho-yoon also shared the brand’s next-generation roadmap in an on-site interview with Herald Muse. “The opening of this Gangnam location is particularly meaningful as it marks the first new hotel inventory added to the Gangnam district since 2022,” Lee noted. “Currently, our guest demographics stand at approximately 60 percent international travelers and 40 percent domestic guests.”

The head further unveiled ambitious growth plans. “We plan to unveil three additional locations in South Korea by mid-next year, with a long-term goal of securing 30 properties across the Korean market by 2030.”

Additionally, Lee addressed transport convenience for international visitors. “We are actively negotiating with local government authorities and transit operators to establish a direct airport bus stop right in front of the hotel. Within six months, we aim to provide the most direct and optimized route to Incheon International Airport, delivering the most convenient transit experience in the Gangnam area.”

The grand opening celebration kicked off with a dynamic “Gugak B-Boy” performance, seamlessly blending traditional Korean musical melodies with modern breakdancing. Guests enjoyed a variety of interactive cultural experiences, including taking commemorative photos with Travelodge’s brand mascot, “Trevor,” at a dedicated photo zone and trying on traditional Korean hanbok.
