The new release from V8 (The8, Vernon) of SEVENTEEN has set its sights on global success.
Unveiled on Monday, V8’s first mini album V8 showcases the unpredictable chemistry between two members of SEVENTEEN—leaders of the K-pop mainstream—and producers at the forefront of subcultures both in Korea and abroad. The8 and Vernon spearheaded the album’s production, joined by an eclectic lineup including Pharrell Williams, KIRARA, and Dylan Brady.
Immediately upon release, the album shot to No. 1 on the daily “Digital Best-Selling Albums” chart of China’s major music platform QQ Music. It also earned a “Triple Gold” certification—awarded to albums surpassing 750,000 yuan (around $105,000) in sales—within just four hours. In addition, it reached No. 4 on the real-time “Album Top 100” chart of Japan’s LINE MUSIC and landed at No. 5 on the Worldwide iTunes Albums chart on iTunes.
The title track “singasong” blends hyperpop-based electronic sounds with a playful, game soundtrack-like sensibility. Reflecting The8 and Vernon’s well-known interest in electronic music, the track was co-created with German DJ and producer Mechatok.
Meanwhile, V8 will unveil their new song performance on the July 2 broadcast of M Countdown on Mnet.
